I thought that I'd make a mid week post to help everyone out who is dragging themselves through finals (YOU GOT THIS), and what better way to do that than give more music recs! Here are some albums to dive into that are at the top of my 2019 list.
GUS DAPPERTON - Where Polly People Go to Read

Gus really DID THAT. This has gotta be one of my favorite albums so far of 2019. Dream pop vibes mix with messy techno to carve out a style that is very unique to the music scene right now. Gus's voice is equal parts smooth and jagged, making each track on this bad boy hit every single feel. As a solo artist, Gus puts all of his energy and style into his own writing.

REPTALIENS - VALIS

I had not previously heard of this band until I went to a concert in Brooklyn this past week. As soon as the bass hit, I was instantly hooked. This trippy sci-fi band isn't afraid to experiment with any musical elements (they're big on synth and the small details) or costume elements for that matter (think mad scientists, stripper businessmen, and giant eyeballs); their aesthetic is truly out of this world. Listening to them feels like floating on a cloud in space eating cotton candy. Enough said.
favorite track = Shuggie II
GIRLPOOL - What Chaos is Imaginary

If grunge rock is more your vibe, then this is the album for you. Broody lyrics are highly concentrated in this album, making each song its own story to unpack. The duo's contrasting voices clash and compliment each other in the best ways possible, with guitar riffs steadily backing up each track. The tone of this album swirls around finding yourself, while also reminiscing on who you used to be. If you're falling into 𝖘𝖆𝖉𝖌𝖎𝖗𝖑/𝖇𝖔𝖎 𝖍𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖘, this is the album to put on for sure.
